Title:
EU-wide Helpline for missing children needed ASAP (1 of 3)

Of interest to:
20

Script details:
EU member states that have not set up a helpline for missing children have been reminded at European level that it must be in place by May of next year. Ireland is one of the countries that does not have the line up and running yet. The aim of the 116000 number is to ensure that there is one designated helpline throughout Europe for people who want to alert the authorities to the possibility of a missing child. It has already been set up in 11 EU countries. Fine Gael MEP Gay Mitchell says it needs to be operational as soon as possible.
