Title: Same rules should apply for all truck drivers - De Rossa(2 of 3) |
Of interest to: 20 |
Script details: |
Proinsias Dr Rossa says having a different set of working rules for self-employed truck drivers and employed drivers makes no sense at all.
MEP’s will vote today on whether the all drivers should be subject to the same rules or not.
All drivers already have to obey by the tachograph which clocks the number of hours being driven in a week.
However there is a limit on the number of hours that drivers who are employed by a company can spend doing extra work for the company, outside of being behind the wheel.
Self-employed drivers are exempt from this at the moment.
Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa says these differences are having a huge knock on effect on drivers lives. |
