Title:
Working hours for truck drivers to be debated(1 of 3)

Of interest to:
20

Script details:
The issue as to whether self employed truck drivers should be subject to the same rules when it comes to working hours as drivers that are employed by a company is up for debate at the European Parliament in Strasbourg today. All drivers already have to obey by the tachograph which clocks the number of hours being driven in a week. However there is a limit on the amount of working hours, outside of driving hours, for those employed by companies while self-employed drivers are exempt from this. MEP’s will vote today on whether the rules should apply to every driver no matter who they work for. Independent MEP Marian Harkin says if these changes are made they will be next to impossible to enforce.
