A co-ordinator needs to be put in place so that EU funding approved for the up-skilling of the former workers at the Waterford Crystal plant is used to its potential.
The European Parliament has granted 3.9 million euro to help re-train the workers who were left jobless.
Over 600 workers will each be able to apply for approximately 6 thousand euro each under the European Globalisation Fund scheme.
65% of the funding will be made available by the European Union.
The Government will top this up with an extra 35%.
The money can be used for re-training, up-skilling and further education.
Fianna Fail MEP Liam Aylward says a co-ordinator is needed to make sure the scheme runs smoothly. |
